Diego Vergani, MD, PhD, FRCP, FRCPath, FAASLD, was born in Capiago (Como) Italy, studied Medicine in Milan and specialised in Internal Medicine and Immunology & Allergy. He moved to the Liver Unit, King’s College Hospital, London, UK in 1977. He became Lecturer in Immunology (1978), Senior Lecturer in Immunology (1983), Professor of Immunology, King’s College London (1992-1996), Professor of Immunology, University College London (1996-2002) and Professor of Liver Immunopathology, King’s College London (2003-2011). He has published over 600 papers and has written the textbook ‘Basic and Clinical Immunology’. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Liver Immunopathology, King’s College London; Honorary Consultant, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Giorgina Mieli-Vergani, MD, PhD, FRCP, FRCPCH, FAASLD, was born in Como, Italy, and studied Medicine in Milan. She specialised in Paediatrics as well as Immunology & Allergy. She moved to the Paediatric Liver Service at King’s College Hospital, London, UK in 1977. She became Lecturer (1981), Senior Lecturer (1985) and then Professor of Paediatric Hepatology (1994). She directed the Paediatric Liver Centre between 1995 and 2011. She has published some 420 peer reviewed articles, 83 book chapters, 3 guidelines and edited 2 books. She is currently Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Hepatology, King’s College London; Honorary Consultant, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
