Pia Rivetti di Val Cervo is a postdoc in the Laboratory of the Prof. Ernest Arenas aims at developing regenerative therapies for Parkinson’s disease, at the Division of Molecular Neurobiology, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. She did her bachelor and master degree at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy working for both undergraduate and graduate thesis at the Department of Biochemical Sciences on post-synthetic modifications of polypeptides using LC-MS/MS. She moved for 6 months to work at the University of Paris Sud to study the role of the thioredoxin reductase system in yeast, with a proteomic approach based on Maldi-ToF mass spectrometry. She got her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Department of Experimental Medicine and Biochemical Sciences of the University of Rome Tor Vergata studying the role of microRNAs in the regulation of the tumor suppressor p63 and skin biology, and in 2011, she moved to Sweden in order to start working with Prof. Ernest Arenas. Her research centres on direct reprogramming, specifically on the generation of dopaminergic neurons from astrocytes.
