Prof. Dr. MARCELLA RIETSCHEL
- Research Director of the Department of Genetic Epidemiology in Psychiatry and of the molecular genetic laboratory at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim, University of Heidelberg
Marcella Rietschel received her MD degree from the University of Marburg. She was trained as Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and Clinical Geneticist at the University of Bonn. She worked there until 2002 as Consultant Psychiatrist and Head of the Research Section “Genetic Epidemiology in Psychiatry”. Since 2002 she is Research Director of the Department of Genetic Epidemiology in Psychiatry and of the molecular genetic laboratory at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim, University of Heidelberg.
Her research focus is the search for genetic and environmental risk factors for psychiatric disorders and research in Pharmacogenetics. Her other research interest is the study of the ethical, legal, and social aspects of psychiatric genetics, because knowledge about genetic influence on behaviour and disorders is not only relevant for the scientific research, but of general societal importance
