David R. Shanks is a professor of Psychology at University College London and head of the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences. After completing his undergraduate studies and PhD at Cambridge University, he held post-doctoral positions at the Applied Psychology Unit in Cambridge and at the University of California, San Diego before joining UCL in 1993. He is the author of 150 publications in human cognitive and experimental psychology, including research on learning and memory, aging, and judgment and decision making, and has authored or edited seven books, including Straight Choices: The Psychology of Decision Making (with Ben Newell and David Lagnado, 2nd edition 2015). Development and testing of computational models is a major theme throughout his research. Recently he has contributed to ongoing debates about replication in behavioural research, employing experimental methods and meta-analysis to demonstrate that some prominent examples of behaviour priming are unreproducible. In 2011 he was awarded the Experimental Psychology Society Mid-Career Award.
